The Glycyrrhiza root, an elementary food, is one of the most ancient plants and has been widely used in China, India, Tibet and many other lands and according to Tibetan lore “nourishes and contributes to the performance of the six senses. In present day it is used  to increase circulation, enhance skin tone and protect against stress.

 


 

Horizontal sprouts, in length 1-2 m, extend from the rhizome, 40-50 cm deep.  The leaves are alternate, the flowers are gathered in a raceme, and are a light violet in color.

It blooms from June – August in Western Russia, North Caucasus, Zakavkazye, Western Siberia, Central Asia, Kazakhstan, Mediterranean, Iran, and Afghanistan
